Blogmas 2016- My Christmas Tree

Hey guys!

Only 7 days until Christmas!

I thought today I will show you our tree and decorations. I love sitting on the sofa watching the fairy lights flicker on the tree. I always have a lovely candle lit, and this year I am obsessed with my Charles Candles ones. I picked mine up at a craft fair, while at my works Christmas do. I love the candles and their wooden wicks so much that I will be ordering some more in the new year.

I kept my decorations the same from last year, and I am really happy with how the room turned out. This year I only decorated the living room, but I love it the way it is. I cannot wait to pile J and Archie’s presents under the tree. All I need is a cheeky Bailey’s hot chocolate and I am all set to relax.

Most of my decorations are from The Range, and I picked the baubles all individually. I also got a pack of baubles to fill in the gaps on the tree. I love the Range all year around, but especially at Christmas. If you have one near you, definitely go check it out as they stock a lot of crafty things as well as homeware.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post, and I would love to see your decorations so leave your links below.

Blogmas 2016- Glossybox review December 2016

Hey guys!

As you all know, I love this time of the month, as it is Glossybox review time. I am so excited about this, as I absolutely love everything in the box. It’s like a pre Christmas present given to me by myself.

In the November box, we were shown a sneak peek of a lipstick that we will be getting this month. We also had a chance to pick either the berry tone or the nude one. I opted for the nude so I was excited to see if I finally managed to get one that doesn’t make me look all washed out.

MDM Flow– Semi-matte Lipstick in the shade ‘Bossy’
YAYY!!! I have FINALLY found the perfect nude lipstick for myself. I love love love this shade. The Lipstick itself comes in a lovely gold packaging, very similar to a Vicks inhaler actually. It’s small and compact so it is great for your handbag and for travel. I cannot wait to test it for a full day. I am really excited to try it with some lip gloss, as well as on its own.
It retails for £18 which is a reasonable price these days. Also, make sure to check out the rest of their shades as there are SO SO many.

Essence-luminizer palette
I actually have a few Essence products already, and they are EXTREMELY affordable. Honestly, they are not that bad and one of the lipsticks I have is actually my all time daily favourite. This palette has three different highlighters, which are actually rather pigmented. I was pleasantly surprised with the product and for about £3, you really can’t go wrong.

Gosh– Mono eyeshadow in the shade dark green
Gosh is actually a brand that I don’t really use all that often. I do have a beautiful purple lipstick, so I was really excited to give this a swatch. Green is actually a really nice colour to wear if you have brown eyes. I am looking forward to trying this out properly, as it is rather dark so a lot of blending is needed I think. Retail price of £8.99 I find is a little expensive, but this is why I love Glossybox.

Revlon– Nail enamel in Gray Suede
OOOHHH This is gorgeous. I actually get acrylic nails done once a fortnight as I am rubbish with applying nail varnish. I actually use a similar colour to this on my acrylics during the summer, and it is really pretty. It is another nude/pink shade, which would go well with any outfit. Revlon says that the varnish will stay on your nails for 10 days without chipping. I’m not sure about that if you do a lot of housework and washing the dishes every night, but it does seem to be a thick consistency. This is something I will gift to one of my friends. REtials at £6.49 which isn’t the cheapest but if it does what it says on the ‘tin’ I would recommend it.

And finally we got the Lipcote-Browcote
Now I was really buzzing about this as I have just used the last of my brow setter liquid. This is a waterproof transparent eyebrow gel, that promises to set your eyebrow makeup for hours. I am a big fan of perfect brows, so this is another product that I will use and hope it works just as well as it says it does. It’s priced £6.99 which isn’t too bad either.

I was truly impressed with this box as well as the past few I’ve had. I think Glossybox has done well, and I am looking forward to the January box.

Blogmas 2016- The Christmas tag

Hey guys!

I enjoy reading and watching the ‘tag’ type posts, so I thought why not do a Christmas themes one.

So let’s get started:

  1. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
In my family, we do the presents on both days, as we open presents on the 24th after dinner, and then the 25th at relatives houses. Due to this, J usually lets me open one or two little stocking fillers on the 24th.
  2. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
It is fake however, we ALWAYS had a real tree in Hungary. Fake trees were not very popular really. I love real trees, but at the moment it is fake.
  3. What is your favourite Christmas film?
I have made a WHOLE post about my favourite Christmas movies, please check them out here.
  4. Where do you usually spend your holiday?
By the side of my family. I will spend Christmas with J’s family this year and go home and repeat Christmas with my family in January. I cannot wait as I have not been home for 2+ years. (I have my parents visiting me)
  5. What is your favourite Christmas song?
OH NO! You all will think I am absolutely crazy, as I am the kind who doesn’t really like Christmas music. My one and only all time favourite song is ‘The Pogues- Fairytale of New York’- I love it and I am happy to listen to it all day. This one song only. Sorry guys
  6. What is your all-time favourite holiday food/sweet treat?
I love everything about Christmas food, but mums Tiramisu is my favourite- you can read the recipe here.
  7. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
Giving for sure! I love watching peoples face when they open my presents. Seeing my loved ones happy means the world to me.
  8. Do you make New Years’ resolutions? Do you stick to them?
I have always made a resolution and NEVER kept up with it. This year I am going to make more realistic plans, such as sticking to my SlimminWorld diet and adding more exercise into my daily routine. I want to get fit and more healthy by the end of 2017 as I am a massive foodie couch potato. I need to get a bit more active really.
  9. You have been granted one Christmas wish…what will it be?
To be able to spend Christmas together with mine and J’s family so we don’t have to be apart from either of them.
  10. Have you ever had a white Christmas?
Of course, many of times. I am Hungarian so it snowed most years. I loved it until I realised how much cleaning it involves and how it affects your driving. I like it if I am sitting by the fire drinking a hot chocolate, but certainly not if I am stuck on a motorway or if my flight is delayed.
  11. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
    Absolutely not. Rudolf, Comet, :O
  12. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
REALLY miserable. I cannot wrap even a box properly. I get really frustrated so I make sure it has bows, tags, ribbon, names and all other stuff on the wrapper so you can’t actually see my sellotape overload. I like getting big sacks, bags or boxes to put my presents into, so my wrapping is covered up

Let me know if you do a Christmas tag as I would love to read yours.

Blogmas 2016- Christmas stocking fillers for HIM

Hey guys!

I do apologise for being a bit quiet in the past few days.

If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that I had my Christmas works do at the weekend. It was such a great few days, but we had to go back to work on Monday and I was absolutely exhausted these past few days. I wanted to make sure that my posts stay enjoyable for you guys and due to the activities and daily routine we had, I was unable to write something that I would have enjoyed reading myself. I also wrote a few posts from home, edited them in the hotel and then when I logged in at home again they were all gone. GRRR

BUT I am back to Blogmas and I am excited to be writing this for you guys. I really do like buying gifts, and since I have J in my life, I did spend a lot of the past few weeks searching for stocking fillers. These few are the ones I think will be great gifts for your male friends and loved ones.

1.Aftershave- Who doesn’t like smelling nice right? All men love aftershave just as much as we ladies love perfumes. There are SO many fragrances out there these days. Diesel, Calvin Klein, Paco Rabbane, Hugo Boss, Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier ones are my favourite. It is relly easy for me to pick a fragrance for a guy as its easier for me to pick what I like amongst male fragrances. Not the case in ladies, but that’s a whole other post haha

2.Beard oil kit- Beards are such a massive craze these days aren’t they? A well groomed, cleaned and oiled beard is so attractive for me! I love all the beard oils that J has, and I am sure if you know someone that has a beard, they will love a starter kit or a more professional grooming balm etc. I quite like to shop online for these, as there are way more varieties than in the shops.

3.Scarves- Now this goes with the above, beard kit I think. IF the guy you are buying a gift for, DOESN’T have a beard I recommend getting them a scarf. Now a scarf can be the main present if you go designer, but also act as a stocking filler if you get one from a high street. If you are buying for you BF this is a great idea, as they cannot complain at you for being cold when you drag them shopping or the Christmas markets. WINWIN

4.Personalised mugs or keyrings- I think if you get someone a personalised present, it shows them that you have put in a lot of work and thought. All dads love a good mug and you can’t go wrong by getting them something with a family photo, favourite car or favourite football team on it. It’s the same with a keyring, as I think it is a lovely touch especially if your family expanded in 2016.

5.Books- Now not everyone likes to read, so make sure that the person you are getting a book for does. J wouldn’t particularly enjoy reading romantic novels, but you all know he is a chef so a cookbook is a great stocking filler for him. Autobiographies are another great idea as you can find one on most celebrities, footballers, historians etc. I love a good autobiography me. A lovely note on the first page or even an autograph from the author would be an awesome gift for anyone.

6. Alcohol- I live in the UK. Need I say more? Everyone loves the freedom of ‘spirits’ during Christmas. Ha! There are so many little boozy gift packages that you could buy someone. I think these are ideal for secret Santa presents, as long as you make sure not to get Bailey’s for the person that’s lactose intolerant. I’ve so so many gift boxes in SAinsbury’s recently. They are extremely fairly priced as well. It’s a perfect gift for someone you cannot but anything too personal for.

These are a few of the ideas that I have come across in my search for J’s stocking fillers. I also like the idea of a photo album, pocket drinking games or other silly novelty gifts. You can find tonnes of them on Asos or on Notonthehighstreet.

I hope you guys have enjoyed this post and I am back to the swing of things so I shall be back with a post tomorrow, the whole way through to Christmas.

Blogmas 2016- Favourite Christmas Recipes

Hey guys!

Oh you all know how much I like to eat. Food is just great, and what is there not to love about Christmas dinner? (I bet some of you are thinking- sprouts)

I thought today I will share with you the three dishes that I absolutely love, and would miss the most if they didn’t appear on my Christmas dinner table.

This is not even part of your meal as such, as it is the dessert but OMG I think all hell would break loose if my mum would decide not to make this. Dad and I would be so shocked that we would probably give it a go ourselves. ha Honestly this is my absolute favourite dish, HOWEVER saying that I have never had a nice one from a shop or a restaurant. My mum makes the best one, she managed to figure out the quantities and I will make sure this is copied by J this Christmas. I pretty much eat all my dinner leaving my dessert belly all empty just to demolish half of mummy’s creation. SUPER YUM

  • 2 boxes of mascarpone
  • 1 tub of whipping cream (large)
  • sponge fingers (3packs so around 30)
  • rum extract
  • sugar (2 tblsp)
  • cocoa powder (just to drizzle on the top)

For the cream: Mix your mascarpone, cream and rum extract in a large bowl with the sugar until smooth. Make sure not to overdo it, as it will turn into butter.

Layering: Simply make a really strong coffee and wait for it to cool down. (The biscuits will soak the hot coffee up too much and that is where it goes wrong and things go soggy.yuck) dip your sponge fingers in the coffee, but do not submerge. I just hold it with a finger at either end and just dip each side into the cold coffee. That is all you need, I promise. Layer your biscuits at the bottom of the dish. Now add a layer of your cream, make sure it covers the biscuits but not too thick. Now add another layer of the biscuits and then cream and repeat until you have run out of cream. The cream should be the top layer .

Serving: I like to just scoop it into little bowls with a spoon, or an ice-cream scoop. Drizzle it with plain cocoa. DELICIOUS.

Yorkshire puddings

You may think I am mad to include this, but I think the first time I had a Yorkie was made by J so could not have been more than 3 years ago. CRAZY isn’t it? Our traditions are much different in Hungary of course and my mum keeps the traditions all year long. Anyway, I do love a Yorkie pudding, as it basically is a pancake that I can stuff with stuffing and gravy and mash. FANTASTIC.

Since J has a secret family recipe I cannot tell you what exactly is in it, but it basically is a runny pancake batter. I know that you put a little oil into each section of the muffin tray and heat it in the oven until super hot. This is the stage when you add your pudding mix, and stick it in the oven until golden brown. Sounds easy? Well, they so often shrink or don’t even rise at all. They can be crispy which is not correct or too soggy which is also not great. I honestly can say that J makes a great Yorkshire pudding -yes I know he is a chef but still.

Cider and Jam ham

Just so you know, this is usually something I have either at home with my parents, but more likely at their friends’ house. Really easy but super delicious. All you need is a big gammon joint, cheap cider (dirt cheap one like the Sainsbury’s own value) onions, garlic and apricot jam.

There is two way of cooking the ham, either in a large pot for a large portion of the day or in a slow cooker. The slow cooker is probably the best option. Just place your gammon, onions, garlic and cider into your slow cooker and cook it for about 6 hours on a low heat, but make sure it doesn’t fall apart. Oce cooked, remove it from the slow cooker, take the skin off if you have any on it and place it onto a large baking tray. I recommend that you wrap the baking tray in tin foil as this can get messy.

This is the point when you generously coat the cooked ham with your apricot jam and place it into a hot oven. (Probably 180 degrees C). This is where it gets a tad messy, as you will have to make sure to come back to it every so often and spoon the jam back on the top. You want to make sure to get the ham completely glazed with the jam, so it goes nice and crispy on the outside.

This is great for your Christmas dinner, or also as a sandwich filling throughout the year. I absolutely love it, and even though it sounds like an odd combination, TRUST ME it is gorgeous.

What are your Christmas dinner favourites?

I have a really busy weekend with my staff party being a full weekend thing, so if the posts are a bit late I’m sorry. I’m not sure what the internet is going to be like in the hotel.

Blogmas 2016 – My favourite cosy hot drinks

Hey guys!

I actually like the fact we get some really cold winters. (sometimes anyway). I love hot drinks, and this is the perfect time of year to enjoy an extra few of these in the evenings. (Don’t tell my SW leader haha)

Today I will show you my favourite ones.

Blogmas 2016- My favourite hot drinks.png

Irish Coffee

Now this is a definite classic! All you need is 4 ingredients and you can enjoy this on a cold winter evening.

  • Irish Cream Liqueur (Bailey’s)
  • Irish whiskey
  • Fresh coffee
  • Whipped cream

All you need to do is mix together your Bailey’s and whiskey, top it up with the coffee and add a generous amount of whipped cream to the top. Try to use cream, that is very cold and firm, so it sits nicely on the top. The idea is to make it look like Guinness.(I add quite a lot of baileys so mines always much lighter) You can sprinkle some crushed biscuits on them too. DONE! Simple, and delicious !

Bailey’s Hot Chocolate

Now you are probably thinking ‘wow she loves Bailey’s?’ but honesty, I can only stand the stuff in hot drinks. I promise I don’t drink these ALL the time, but when its freezing cold outside and you have a cheesy Christmas movie on, these go down rather easily. I don’t over complicate my recipes, as I rather spend time on the sofa than on the kitchen floor, so this is what you need

  • Bailey’s or any other Irish Cream Liqueur
  • Hot Chocolate – I just use Cadburys instant one for this but you can make it yourself with milk and cocoa powder or chocolate chips
  • Whipped cream – I like using spray cream for this one

All I do is make the instant hot chocolate on the stove, make sure it doesn’t boil up. Add the Bailey’s to your chosen mug, fill it up with the hot chocolate. Now all you need to do is add your cream, and a sprinkle of cocoa or chocolate sauce, PERFECT!

Gingerbread Latte

See, I’ve told you not all of them will contain alcohol haha This is more my favourite than J’s as I think he finds it a bit too sickly. (or he prefers whiskey over syrup.hmm). As you may have guessed this also will be simple.

  • Coffee
  • Milk
  • Gingerbread syrup – I use the Monin one
  • Whipped Cream or Spray Cream

I start by making a nice milky coffee. I add a splash of coffee to my mug and stir in a teaspoon of the syrup. Make sure this is mixed well, and slowly fill up your mug wth the remaining coffee. I top it with whipped cream and if I have some, I also sprinkle some biscuits on top. It is a great alternative for all the alcohol ones above. Kids will also love it! they can pretend they are drinking the same as you 🙂

Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate

OMG this is amazing!! Salted caramel is a big craze these days, isn’t it? I certainly love this very much. This is probably the most time consuming one of them all but BOY it’s worth it.

  • Sugar
  • Lemon juice
  • Milk
  • Chocolate chips
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream
  • Caramel sauce

All you need to do is carefully melt the sugar and the lemon juice on the hob until golden brown. Add the milk and stir until it starts to heat up and all the caramel is melted. This may take a few minutes so just give it some time. At this point, I remove it from the stove and I add the chocolate chips and whisk it until smooth. I sometimes like adding both milk and dark chocolate ones for extra flavour. Add your salt to taste. You cannot go wrong by serving it with some whipped cream and some extra caramel sauce on top. This is a winner for everyone!

That everyone is my ultimate winter hot drink list. I hope you try at least one of them and love it as much as I do. Let me know of some other flavours that you have at Christmas, as I don’t mind tasting new ones 🙂

Blogmas 2016-Stocking fillers for her

Hey guys!

I hope you have been enjoying your December so far. Have you been following me during Blogmas?

Today I will share with you what I think are great stocking fillers this year. Whether you are stuck for secret Santa present ideas, or have another few little gifts that you have to get, I am sure you will find these useful.

1.Lush products– Most girls and women love pamper themselves, and what better way to do it than Lush? I love a relaxing bath, therefore I recommend their bathbombs. They have so many great products though from bath bombs to shower gels, to hair dyes and fizzy bars etc. I love that everything is handmade and organic, therefore it is suitable for even the most sensitive skin types. You can never go wrong by getting someone a Lush product.

2.Chocolate– Every girl likes chocolate sometimes. I am sure you will find a lovely festive box that you can add to their stockings and which will make them happy. I absolutely love Raffaello and Toffifee. YUM I personally don’t normally eat chocolate during the year, but I do love it in December.

3. Candles– Every girl I know loves candles, and will be happy to add to their collection. I personally love Yankee candles, but I would really like to get hold of some Bath and Bodyworks ones as the reviews are awesome. Yankee does little gift sets, and they have candles of all sizes. The only problem you will face is picking the best scent as they are all amazing at this time of the year.

4.Vouchers– I always thought these are such great gifts for someone who you are not entire sure what to buy for. Even the pickiest of the pickiest girls will have a favourite shop, and I would be surprised If they wouldn’t offer gift vouchers or gift cards. This is a great idea to get, as it lets the girls pick what they REALLY want. A girl can never say no to some free gifts.

5.Books- I personally love reading and prefer actual books over iBooks or kindle. I find that the best books are the ones in a sequel as I always want to read more about the story than what you can fit into one book. You know what I mean? As you may already know I love Harry Potter and the new illustrated books are amazing. Might be a bit big for a sticking, but definitely an awesome secret Santa present for a Potter head. hey are just beautiful. ( It is on my wishlist this year, which you can read here.)

6. Personalised gifts– This is a lovely touch and can be made into your main gift too, depending on what you purchase. I think little personalised jewellery, mugs, picture frames or wall signs are great gifts. Print out their favourite quote and grab a beautiful frame and you are done. I love this idea, as I think pictures and quotes make every room look much more homely and cosy.

Hopefully these items give you some inspiration if you’re stuck for stocking filler ideas.

Make sure to follow the blog to see my other Christmas inspired blooms posts.
